Live Review: Scissor Sisters at Shepherd's Bush London May 16th 2012

By Jordan Meehan

I had the pleasure of seeing Scissor Sisters live last night at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London and my god what a show it was! We got an exclusive first listen of the new album Magic Hour earlier this month and suffice to say we aboslutely loved it, and I was extremely excited to see the new material live. Whenever a new artist you love releases new material and goes on tour, it's only natural to be a little worried that the new material won't fit well with the new material; however, this is not the case with the new material from Magic Hour that Scissor Sisters performed last night, as it fit perfectly alongside their older material that we all know and love.

Scissor Sisters were right on top of their game last night, bursting with energy and sass and proving that glam rock is alive and well. Some highlights of the night were new songs Let's Have a Kiki, Shady Love and Only the Horses (video below), all of which showed that the new material has the classic Scissor Sisters sound and feel that we've all come to love. Scissor Sisters will be playing Shepherd's Bush Empire again tonight before returning to North America to continue with their North American Tour. If you're in North America, GO TO THIS SHOW!

What a wonderfull kiki it was.

Live Review: Will Young “The Echoes Tour” at The Regent, Ipswich November 4th 2011

By Mandy Rogers

From the moment his band and backing singers first touched stage, dressed in Burberry macs taking up their positions via entering a free standing door set at mid-stage.  The culminating arrival of Will Young additionally dressed with a navy beret looking very Frank Spencer, and with a tiny glint in his eye, you immediately sensed that the evening was going to turn into something memorable.

As the band launched into the introduction of forthcoming single “Come On” -  Will whipped off his mac and beret, and beckoned the crowd to their feet, which is where we remained throughout his 90 minute set.

And what a show stopping set it was, featuring the bulk of his hit singles and showcasing a selection from his latest album “Echoes”.

From the off-set a charismatic Will had his audience fully engaged with his silky soulful deliveries of new tracks “Come On”, “I Just Want A Lover” and “Hearts On Fire”, further pulling out all the stops with some truly sublime performances of “Changes”, “Your Game” and “Light My Fire” from his back catalogue.

Live Review: Erasure And Frankmusik at The Roundhouse, London October 25th 2011

by Raj Rudolph

Last night the legendary electronic pop pioneers Erasure took over the stage at the unique Camden Town venue The Roundhouse for a night of pure nostalgia and a set-list of amazing hits which couldn't have been any more perfectly compiled.  Performing mostly songs from their back catalog like "Always", "Love To Hate You", "Chains Of Love", "Chorus", "Ship Of Fools" and "Blue Savannah", Andy Bell and Vince Clark delivered in a way that connected and resonated with each and every one of the music lovers that sold out and rammed one of the most anticipated London concerts of this year.

It was very hard to keep myself from smiling ear-to-ear during this impressive set.  I kept saying to myself that I needed a night out like this as the two hour show amazingly documented for me many of my formative years.  With songs like "Stop", "Drama" and the roaringly anthematic deliverance of "A Little Respect", I kept getting flashbacks from my teenage and young adult years all through the night with this perfect pop soundtrack.  I don't think I was the only boy in the audience going through a bit of time warp last night, there were many folk like me at the show last night which gave the gig a true sense of pride and community.

I've met Andy Bell a few times and he just radiates a joyous aura that is very rare in performers of his time and of today. He's almost a shrinking violet in person, a bit shy and withdrawn, but man - put him on a stage with Vince Clark at the helm of the mean gargoyle synth and Bell's inner Mick Jagger comes flying out, albeit with a somewhat gay camp confidence that is just adorable to witness.
