Guest Editorial: Sleek TVs Essential For Music Lovers

PDP508XD_380

These days, it is actually becoming somewhat rare to find televisions in stores that are not of the flat screen variety. Indeed, whether you shop through electronics stores online, head to Marks & Spencer to check out the television section, or go to any other type of tv store, you will probably notice that the selection is almost exclusively made up of sleek new plasma and LCD TVs.

The simple reason for this is that the picture if far better on these televisions than on anything that came before them, meaning that people simply prefer to watch their programs on newer televisions. In fact, even music fans have found things to love about these newer TVs, as it can be simply spectacular to watch the newest music videos and concert recordings on a crystal clear, high quality screen. So, with this in mind, here are a few words on some exciting new music.

Blink-182 just released its first album in nearly a decade, entitled Neighborhoods. The album is a bit different from the late 90’s, early 2000’s Blink-182 that we all remember, and shows some level of maturation (primarily in subject matter). However, there are still elements of classic Blink, and the album has mostly been met with rave reviews from fans. The band is currently on tour, meaning that it’s a good idea to be on the lookout for new videos and concert coverage.

Guest Blogger Jason Walker Shares His "It Gets Better" Message with EQ Readers

Cover

Hello. I'm Jason Walker.

In light of the recent events in the United States that have opened so many peoples eyes to the problems that gay youth face in school, and instead of blogging about me or my music, I wanted to take this opportunity to use this platform as a tool to get the message out that you can survive bullying and finally come to a place where it's ok to be who you are.

I know this because I am a survivor, and I'm hoping that maybe by sharing my memories, I can help someone. From the time I was in 4th grade until I received my diploma, I was continuously taunted and bullied in school. I was called things that still to this day make me shutter when I remember them...and I do remember them...like it was yesterday.

But I survived. I was verbally assaulted almost everyday during my school years, and physically assaulted on more than a few occasions. But I survived. When I boarded the bus to go to school, no one would let me sit with them, and I was left to gaze upon everyone laughing at me...horrible memories.

But I survived.

EQ Interview With Grum - "Dubstep - It Just Doesn’t Do Much For Me - It's Just A Bit Irrating"

Grum

EQ's Peter Wilson talks to Grum about his "interesting" music videos, their mutual love for Chromeo and why he isn't a fan of dubstep...

Peter Wilson: Your videos really are astonishingly entertaining. I found myself grinning throughout the whole of "Through The Night", how did you come up with the idea for the video?  Did something inspire you, or was it always going to be like that, even while you were writing the lyrics?
Grum: I have to admit, the video idea was not completely mine…although I was very keen on the 80s pastiche thing.  We worked with a production company called The General Assembly who produced the whole thing for us.  They are based in LA so it would have been difficult for me to get too involved. However, the videos they have created have been amazing so I’m really happy.  The response has been brilliant. I like how it divides opinions over the extent of the two cops relationship.

One of your other music videos, "Can't Shake This Feeling" is a grotesque food porn extravaganza, but still manages to have a compelling narrative. The video is messy. REALLY messy. It's kinda like watching "Call On Me" crossed with an extreme 80s McDonalds ad. Did the girls mind shovelling the food down and getting it everywhere?
As with the "Through The Night" video, I wasn’t there on-set when it was being made, although it looks like they’re having a good time. Again the idea with this was to give it an alternative feel, while making fun of the typical "Call On Me" style dance music video.
