Sergey Releases "Girlfriend" on May 12 - Album To Follow

Sergey_girlfriend

Following his recent club tour of the UK, Sergey is back on May 12th with the release of "Girlfriend" which will be followed up two weeks later with the highly anticipated UK release of "TV Show" on May 26th.

I am looking forward to the UK release of the album - obviously with a capital 'O'.  It will be most interesting to see how Style Records and Sergey's management ends up doing the UK packaging and strategy when aiming for Sergey's success in the UK - as the music market is vastly different in Russia.

Regardless - this is pretty exciting news!  It's great to see Sergey gaining some momentum and interest after all these months of me going on and on about how poptastic I think he is.  I reckon it's high time for Sergey to take up temporary residence in London again!  Don't you?

If you can get your hands on the remixes to "Girlfriend" - they are amazing.  I love the Buzz Junkies remix!

UPDATE:  It looks like "Girlfriend" is actually being pushed back to June 16th now.  Sergey must need some time to work on his summer tan before releasing the single.  Tee-hee.

Sergey - Live At London's Heaven

Sergey_heq

Last night I finally got to see Sergey perform in Londontown and it was beyond amazing.  I have been waiting for Sergey's London debut for quite awhile since I first stumbled upon his stellar cover of Johnny Hates Jazz smash hit "Shattered Dreams" last July.  Upon one listen to that fab pop tune and some swift research on the web shortly after, I found a genuine pop star that ticked all the right pop buttons and I couldn't wait to pen fantastic about him on this blog for readers worldwide.  I swore I wouldn't let EQ turn into a Sergey fansite, but sometimes the excitement over pop brands that work just takes over and well, you end up getting a lot of news about Sergey as a result.

Sergey is probably one of the only artists that could keep me up until 3am on a "school night" as they say.  Taking to the stage at 1:30am to a crowd of usual London eclectics, party pimpers, dragsters, "ModFabs" and Russian hardcore fans, Sergey and his troupe of dancers gave an electrifying performance of new single "Girlfriend", "Shattered Dreams" and very surprisingly, "Flyer (Under Fire)" - which I didn't really expect to hear, but very happy he chose to perform this for the London audience.  I couldn't help but think that "Flyer" would work very well as a single in the UK.  Crowd reaction to this song was nothing short of mesmerizing.  You could just look at their faces and knew what they were thinking...

"This Russian guy has something".

Expect young Londoners to be visiting the web and Googling "Sergey" today with impatient enthusiasm just like I did months ago.  More fun snaps of Sergey's performance last night can be found in the official EQ Facebook page over on  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11922726785.

Thanks to everyone at Style Records and to Sergey for making a rather mediocre Wednesday night a total blast!  You'll be hearing a lot more about Sergey on EQ as we get closer to his album release in the UK in May.

And Sergey Mania Hit The UK

Camden1

Sergey has arrived in the UK peeps and has been thrilling crowds in Surrey, Romford and Bournemouth with his mini set of "Girlfriend", "Shattered Dreams" and "Fake". The crowds are really into what Sergey is doing and reactions have been VERY positive.

Here's a little piccie of Sergey in Camden Town in London. Tomorrow night is the final night of the UK mini-tour and EQ will be there to bring you all the final night dish from the legendary Heaven nightclub!

Sergey Lazarev Video For "Girlfriend" and Eurovision Performance of "Flyer"

Sergeytwin

In my weekly scrounge of the internet for all things fun and Sergey, I found out via one of my favorite blogsters Pop Poster Girl that my numero uno Russian popster did a performance of a new song called "Flyer" for the Russian Eurovision competition.  Unfortunately, Sergey lost to Dima Bilan and only came in 4th which I think is a travesty.  Hahaha - like I'm one to judge Russian pop acts, but since I think Sergey is a hell of a lot more sexier than Dima (see below), I'm going to get all pissy about it and you can't stop me.  Anywho - check out Sergey's stellar performance and all black wearing sexiness on the YouTubage below.

What did you think about that!  And if that wasn't enough, we are treated to a new video by Sergey for his uber-bitchy track "Girlfriend" which once again sees Sergey slinking around with a bunch of beautiful women with his shirt half-open.  New Sergey = Happy EQs.

How does Sergey Lazarev know how to push all my pop buttons?  Naughty Sergey.

And here is the nakedness of Dima Bilan just for the hell of it...do the homework!  Dima is quite obviously a believer in "less is more".

Oh it's a fun day here in the EQ office!

We Are Freezing in the UK - Sergey Is Wearing Cut-Offs...So Unfair...

Sergey_beach

So while we have been freezing in the UK for the past month, Sergey Lazarev has been galavanting around Miami in an effort to make us all jealous.

Anyway, you may have thought we'd forgotten all about our favourite Russian boy wonder, but we haven't.  Here's a little video of him on his recent Russian tour performing 'Shiver' and gettin all 'bump and grind' on us.

It's Sergey bitch.

Sergey Releases 'Everytime' on UK iTunes

Nudelazarevmv7

You know, I run into some of the strangest pictures of Sergey on the net sometimes.  Take this one for instance - what is going on here sweetie?!

EverytimeAnyways - Sergey's brilliantly perfect pop diddy 'Everytime' is now available on UK iTunes!  The single package also comes with 5 great remixes and you can even download the video.  I've been getting a fair amount of email asking where you can get his albums in the UK so thought you would all like to know this little bit o news.  It seems that Sergey (note the drop of surname) is going for the sex factor in marketing his stuff to UK audiences - check out the EP cover.  I don't mind.

It's Funny Being A Gay Blogger Sometimes...

Sergey3

So it seems EQ has stirred up some opinions over on the forums of his Russian website.  EQ is just too gay for at least one of Sergey's fans apparently - or at least that is what I can make out of translating the thread - it reads roughly "the blog isn't qualified to talk about Sergey's music - they are more interested in the appearance of boys".  Well, maybe a sliver of truth to that if you take all my comments seriously, but I'm sure if Sergey or his lovely manager Annie thought "like that" they would have never agreed to let me interview him.

So just get over it people - it's 2007.  And for the record, Sergey's music is absolutley lovely, inspired and pop genius, regardless of whether or not this blog's author is a homo.  We want everyone GLOBALLY to know that.  He deserves to be a huge superstar.

And he does have lovely hair doesn't he? - I thought it was a great question for an interview!

But what do you think...

If EQ Was In Charge Of Sergey Lazarev's UK Marketing...

Sergey_cd_cover

If I were in charge of marketing for Sergey Lazarev's debut CD in the UK and the USA, well, this is what the album artwork would look like...classy huh?!  Sexy - definitley.  Copies would fly off the shelf just based on the album artwork alone eh?  hehehe.

And this is what the tracklisting would be...

  2. Fake
  3. Everytime
  4. Can't Let You Go
  5. Shiver
  6. Lost Without Your Love
  7. Beautiful

The Electroqueer Fold: Sergey Lazarev

Sergey

Artist: Sergey Lazarev

Amazing Because:  We hardly pay attention to the music that is produced by foreign speaking countries such as Russia, but from the minute we discovered Sergey Lazarev's amazing electronic cover of 80's smash hit 'Shattered Dreams' by Johnny Hates Jazz, we knew this Russian popstar was something beyond the extraordinary.  If it wasn't for the power of the internet, we would have never found Sergey's super fine pop gems 'Fake', 'The Eye Of The Storm' and 'Everytime'.  He's also a superb dancer and performer and it's been awhile since a Russian pop act (ie: Tatu) has maintained our attention so effortlessly.  He's got the looks, the talent and it's high time that the whole world know about Sergey Lazarev.

Why He's EQ:  Although his songs from his first two albums 'Don't Be Fake' and 'TV Show' are mostly pop-based, there is an apparent electronic sprinkling throughout his tracks that make us sit up and go - 'hey that works'.  His music panders really well to radio, the club crowds, pop pushers of every persuasion and for anyone who gets a thrill from good ol power pop.  Just one listen to 'Shiver' and 'Can't Let You Go' will make any electronica junkie say 'you know what, it's a little pop...but I like it'.  What we like most about Sergey is that he hasn't even hit his prime yet - watch out EQs, he very well could come up something even more brilliant as he gets older...and he's certainly off to a running start.

Check out Sergey's music videos for a taste of this rising young talent...

Let's Get Sergey Into some UK Clubs, What Do You Reckon?...

Whoa.  EQ reckons Sergey might do very well on a club tour of the UK...wouldn't you agree?  Here he is performing a club mix to 'Fake' and is pretty much oozzing sexuality.  Well say it again. Whoa.

Vampires and Sergey Lazarev in a vest...What more could you want from a pop video?

Yes - it's the video for Sergey Lazarev's 'Eye Of The Storm'...do tell us when you are getting sick of all this Sergey coverage...

Sergey Lazarev - Everytime

We literally are falling in muscial love with Sergey Lavarev everytime we hear his music.  He's divine.  He makes very good pop music, despite there not being much electro influence in it at all.  Here is his fab video to 'Everytime'.  It's a little old, but you don't mind do you?

We want to invite Sergey over to our house for tea.  Don't you?

He's The Best Thing To Come From Russia Since Tatu : Meet Sergey Lazarev

Sergey

We had full intentions of doing a rant post today, but instead we stumbled upon a bright new talent named Sergey Lazarev that hails from Russia.  Having been offered a chance to buy his new CD single for his cover of Johnny Hates Jazz's classic 'Shattered Dreams', we couldn't help but do a little google search for this young man to see what else he's been up to.  Here is what we learned...

  • Sergey has a really fun and colourful MySpace page
  • Sergey likes to kiss and is probably quite the cassanova...check out his video to 'Everytime'.
  • Sergey looks a little bit like Elijah Wood and Breckin Meyer combined.
  • Sergey would like you to buy his CD single for 'Shattered Dreams'.
  • Sergey is a media nerd...you can download all his videos and a ton of his audio at his website!
  • Sergey has a mix to his song 'Fake' which is called 'The Gay Club Mix'.
  • Sergey is just adorable.

So it is with great pleasure that we present to you a new pop treasure to play with today.  We'll be watching Sergey quite closely here on EQ - welcome to the fold, young man.

Here's his sexy and stylish video to 'Shattered Dreams' to get you going...
