MySpace Discovery: Morgan Page

Morgan_page

For today's MySpace Discovery I am taking you to the wild wild west (ok Joshua Tree National Park) where tumbleweeds roam free and electro beats by renowned remixer Morgan Page fill the air.  Morgan's new single "The Longest Road" has been causing quite a stir in America lately as it reached #4 on the Billboard Club Play Chart competing against Madonna's "4 Minutes" and that God-awful Mariah Carey song.

It seems Morgan Page is onto something with "The Longest Road".  Opening with the sexy synthed-up vocals "giddy up and go" alongside a Texas-esqe guitar sample over an ice-cool electronic beat - you'll find yourself getting willingly lost in the open range and longing for a glass a water - it's that hot.

Make sure you check out the song and remixes on MySpace and if you really like the special sound that Morgan brings to the table, you may also be interested in checking out some of his other remixed works for rather cool artists like Imogen Heap, Tegan & Sara, Ultra Nate, Coldplay and Stevie Nicks over on his official website.

Morgan Page's album "Elevate" is out now and here's the vid-e-o to "The Longest Road" which somehow brings up memories of DM's "Personal Jesus" to mind...Enjoy.

MySpace Discovery: Crystal Castles

Crystalcastles_2

Oooh. Awww. OH.  I'm totally digging this quirky Canadian electronic duo who have named themselves after the mythical toyland home of She-Ra Princess Of Power.  Say hello to Crystal Castles everyone.

Crystal Castles are getting a lot of buzz at the moment and are keeping a hectic tour schedule promoting their head-bopping music throughout England and Europe.  All the buzz is certainly worth it to - they have been coined "the most exciting and original band in the world right now" - and that is certainly a huge compliment to live up to.

Take a listen to their brilliant track "Crimewave" on their MySpace page along with their video for new sexydirty single "Courtship Dating" and you'll know exactly why I think they are rather ace, even if they don't like to show their faces much.

MySpace Discovery : Hej Matematik

Hej_matematik

EQ readers sure know where it's at.  Today's MySpace discovery was urgently sent through to us by one of our loyal readers and you're in for quite a surprise...Say hello to Hej Matematik.

I have absolutely no idea what the hell these good looking lads are singing about, but they sure no how to turn out an electro beat with the best of them.

Hailing from Denmark as part of the Scandanavian pop explosion, Nicolaj & Søren Rasted are on a mission to get their fans moving - and the boys sure no how to rock those suits don't they!  Make sure you check them out on MySpace ASAP and to get a feeling for how serious these boys are about their electro, here are a couple of their music videos to tantalize the senses.

Now if only we could convince them to sing in English - anyone care to translate the lyrics?

MySpace Discovery: Neurosonic

Neurosonic

You know, I'm trying to keep an open mind when it comes to hard rock and with a band like Neurosonic out there, it proves to me that not all hard rock is rubbish.

If it wasn't for the fact that Neurosonic got the whole Placebo thing going on slightly, I might have not sat up and listened to these guys.  But what I found upon my first listen, was a pop-tinged industrial band that infuses rock and electronica in a delightful way that somehow works for me - so just possibly they might work for you as well.

Check them out on MySpace - I quite like their down-tempo rock ballad "Me Myself and I" as well.  It's definitley worth a listen.  And here's their new video from their album "Drama Queen" called "So Many People" that has had me in a joyous rock rhapsody the last couple of days.

It's always good to mix things up a bit isn't it...You might also be suprised that I own a few Linkin Park CDs too in the EQ arhives...Enjoy.

MySpace Discovery: Doe Deere

Doe_deere

I can't believe this diva isn't famous yet.  Say hello to Doe Deere (pronounced "dough dear") everyone - she's going to be a regular fixture here at EQ so learn how to say her name proper.  She's a disco diva on the verge of something incredible with her new EP "Supernatural" which will be dropping very very soon.

I only discovered the brilliance of Doe Deere a few days ago when she casually left a comment on EQ and like any artist that gets in touch, I thought I would check her out.  Not only was I highly impressed with her firm command of pop music, I was immediately sold on her quirky sense of style and her ability to make me listen to every single song on her MySpace profile - TWICE!  Trust me, you'll be mesmerized.  Click now and think of Sophie Ellis-Bextor conjuring up the sprirt of Lady Miss Kier in her sexy hayday with Deee-Lite.

Doe has graciously agreed to let us exclusively stream her new single "One Touch" in the Just Play Bitch section so make sure to check it out and if you're a member of the EQ Facebook group, you'll also be able to download the song in mp3 format for a limited time only.

Doe Deere : One Touch

Let Doe Deere ignite your San Francisco disco and strap on your go-go boots for a non-stop ride with the latest edition to the EQ Royale - yes, she's that good.  And here's a little vid-e-o from Doe about how she came to be a disco songstress instead of a lonely girl with antlers hiding out in the Canadian wild.  Precious.

Go and order the album now.  You've been told.

MySpace Discovery : Christian George

Christian_2

His name is Christian George people.

Christian is energetically bursting on the pop scene with his sexually-charged electro song "Strangers" which you can hear in it's full glory right now over at his MySpace hangout.

The buzz around "Strangers" is starting to really build. Paying homage to the classic Laura Brannigan track "Self Control" in his steamy debut single, it's no surprise that people are listening and taking notice of Christian. With his striking good looks and a killer debut track under his belt, Christian obviously knows how to make all the girls and boys swoon. And that is what he has his sights set on.

Christian's album is coming out very soon as well and here is what he had to say about the collection of hot tracks he has put together:

"Half of my songs are about sleeping with somebody and the others are about heartbreak. This album is very black or white. I’m either making you scream or you’re making me cry."

Deee-lightful. I look forward to screaming with Christian George. Do you?

MySpace Discovery : Jamie Jo

Jaimejo

Say hello to the sexy and sultry Jamie Jo.  For the past week, there has been one dance tune that has dominated my iPod - and that track is Jamie Jo's provocative new electronic single, appropriately titled, "You Turn Me On" which features the legendary silky backing vocals of Barry Gibb.

With one listen to "You Turn Me On" you are immediately transported to an era of disco-rock cool, Blondie infused attitude meshed with pieces of shattered glass from Madonna's mirrorball.  It's utterly catchy and you'll be happy to have discovered Jamie Jo today on EQ.

Jamie Jo's online presence is just beginning to ramp up so make sure you run over to her official MySpace to hear for yourself what I'm going on about in today's post.

In an excerpt from her bio, Jamie Jo describes why she is in love with electro music...

"There's something special about electro, the sound," Jamie Jo shares. "I think that it really touches your senses. And I want to portray that and bring people a sultry, sexy feeling through my music."

That is perfectly fine by me Jamie Jo.

With all this excitement building up around her, you can bet EQ will be more than curious about her upcoming album release "In Violet".  Visit her official website for more Jamie Jo news and information on this rising electro pop starlet.

MySpace Discovery + Free Download : Dísa

Disa

Move over Bjork, you're not the hottest thing to come out of Iceland anymore.  Say hello to Dísa EQs.

A good friend of mine turned me onto Dísa a few weeks ago and I have to say - she is absolutely brilliant.  Run very quickly over to her MySpace page now to discover the gorgeous track that is "Temptation" - which is not only climbing The EQ Chart as we speak, but it's also being offered up as free download!

I am also totally in love with Dísa's track "Missing Part".  I can't stop listening to it - it's on repeat.  I am going to keep a very keen eye on Dísa's development as I think the kind of music she's doing is very important and relevant to music today.  She's totally EQ approved and I'd be very curious as to what you think about her.

If you love a soothing female voice over a comfortable duvet of chilled electronica - Dísa is an Icelandic import you need to have on your iPods.

MySpace Discovery : Cassette Electrik

Cassette_electrik

Say hello to Cassette Electrik.  I keep getting emails about them from all-sorts and I have to say that I am really fond of their remake of the Erasure classic "A Little Respect" which has been on the EQ Chart for quite awhile now.  Very soon, the "electro with soul" twosome will also be releasing their new single "The Smartest Bomb" which is rather electrolicious - my ears always tweak up a little bit whenever it randomly takes over my iPod.

Their debut album "Electromagnetic" is now available on iTunes and you can get your fill for all things Cassette Electrik over on their MySpace page now!  We'll be watching them closely as they have already opened for the legendary Human League and are doing some shows out and about in Londontown.  If you fancy checking them out tomorrow, they will be doing a gig at Blow Up on Oxford Street!

MySpace Discovery : Sylvia Powell

Sylviapowell

Move over Amy Winehouse, Alice Smith and Adele ain't got nothing on today's MySpace discovery, Sylvia Powell.

I have to admit, I've been a fan of Sylvia Powell's music for quite some time when I discovered her first album "Revue" by accident a few years ago.  She has just completed her second album "The Script" and I have to say that it is so beautifully orchestrated that it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.  This isn't your usual pretty voice doing a so-so album - this is an singer/songwriter that quite simply makes your heart melt when her silky smooth voice seduces you into a listen. "The Script" is what Mutya Buena should have been doing and it's what Sade and Skye would love to come back with.

I broke Sylvia's fantastic tune "Endless" quite awhile ago on EQ and the buzz about this track is starting to build.  Just one listen to the beautiful and haunting ballad "Edge Of Time" on her MySpace profile will make you want to embrace Sylvia's music with a passion.  Sylvia has received rave reviews at the industry's biggest music conference MIDEM in Cannes recently and she is ready to get on stage and deliver.

Take two minutes out of your day today to discover Sylvia Powell for yourself - you'll be so glad that you did and if you have any sort of musical taste like I do, you'll know that Sylvia is one to watch out for in that "non-electro-I-need-something-fresh-and-new-to-listen-to" sort of way.

Hot Electro Alert : Meet The Slips

Theslips

Meet The Slips - these guys were on fire on Sunday night when they opened for Darren Hayes at London's Islington Academy.  In the spirit of The Chemical Brothers and Digitalism (but somewhat better in my opinion), this act is definitley one to watch out for.

Having already worked with heavyweights like Madonna and Gwen Stefani (namedropping namedropping) - David and Rob of The Slips certainly have that special sound that defines what good electro is now.  Even Bjork has worked with them and you know how testy she can be...garrhh!

Make sure you give The Slips the ol MySpace whirl and if you like what you hear, you can purchase their latest single 'Girl At The Back Up' there...and you might even find a free download of their remix for CSS of 'Music Is My Hot Hot Sex' - one of my fave tracks of last year!

I'm looking forward to hearing more from The Slips!

MGMT Are Ones To Watch

Mgmt

I could very easily get obsessed with new psychedelic electric popsters, MGMT (pronounced "Management"). Doing my weekly cruise of iTunes, I ran across their cleverly named album 'Oracular Spectacular' and based on the comments alone by other music fans, I thought it was worth checking out.

What can I say about the album? Well, it's simply delicious. It's like everything I don't like about 70's rock music, turned good. It bakes my brownie. It lights my cigarette in a non-smoking world. It makes me want to become a barefoot hippie-synth touting bohemian. 'Kids' is like an electronic orgasm. 'Electric Feel' could have easily been the next Scissor Sisters hit (watch out Jake Spears), 'Weekend Wars' sounds somewhat reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins a wee bit, and single 'Time To Pretend' is just gorgeous.

It's as clear as day why the boys are on the hot tip in 2008. They are blowing up in the UK now and have definitely peaked my curiosity. I don't think their MySpace or official website really gives you a clear feeling of how brilliant they truly are, so have a look if you must, but take my word for it and quickly go download their masterpiece album now.

Here is the YouTubage to 'Time To Pretend'...but you may also want to view this in high quality on this link as well.

We'll be watching MGMT in 2008!

If Mika Was An Electro House Parisian/New Yorker - Meet Naommon

Naommon

OMFG. I just listened to Naommon's song 'Allnighter' and it very well could be my favourite dance song of this year so far...It's beyond amazing! Where has this guy been hiding? Has he been tucked away in NYC clubland? Well, I thinks it's time that the rest of the world take a listen to this precious gem of an electro artist and you can do so over at his MySpace profile right here, right now.

I just downloaded his album and remix package called 'Allnighter' as well and I'm VERY excited about this artist - take notice EQs! Better yet, watch the vid-e-o - what do you think? Doesn't he have a slight resemblence to Mika mixed in with a bit of old school Jellybean? He's got it - the right combination.

MySpace Discovery : The Greenmatics

Greenmatics

Nelson Clemente turned me onto this band. They are The Greenmatics and hail from Melbourne and I've been bouncing away to their track 'I Love Technology' for about a week now and it's been climbing the EQ chart. I managed to find their track 'Wait No More' on UK iTunes and it's a slice of keyboard and bassline heaven. Keeping it raw and electronic, The Greenmatics are a welcome addition to EQ and I'll be keeping an eye on them.

Take a listen to their tracks over on their MySpace page and if you like what you hear, make sure you purchase their EP 'Out Of Limbo'. To visualise what The Greenmatics are all about, make sure you watch the electro-psychedelic YouTubage below to 'I Love Technology'.

Taio Cruz : So Let Go...Electro. Take It Nice and Slow...

Taio

The pop scene (or more appropriately called 'Popjustice') is all abuzz with Taio Cruz's third single called 'Come On Girl' which is released February 25th as a digital download. The single also features a little guest appearance by the dance vocal stylings of Lucianna and we have to say, it definitely is one one of the best dance/electro tracks we've heard so far this year.

When we first heard this song we thought, where have we heard this before? We took a little 'cruz' into our Music Library and there was a song we downloaded ages ago called 'Movin On' which we forgot to write about. Ooops. We were going to say something along the lines of 'finally a hip/hop artist we can deal with' or 'Calvin Harris watch out, cuz he's stealing your neon stylings' or 'Wow, a great hip hop /electro-tinged song not produced by Timbaland' - mostly something lame, which was probably why we didn't write about it in the first place, but have a little look below - 'Movin On' was a great song and video - still is! We might even suggest the 'Kardinal Beats Remix' which is of course VERY EQ and available on iTunes... ;)

Movin On

But let's not forget about 'Come On Girl'. It's gonna be huge. Heck, you might even find a free download of it over on Electro Wow. We'll be watching Taio Cruz quite closely we thinks. You may even want to go check him out on MySpazz.

MySpace Discovery : Fritz Helder & The Phantoms

Fritz

Say Hello to Fritz Helder & The Phantoms.  They pretty much define the word electroqueer to a tee.  Bursting with fabulosity, glamour, trashtasticness, and some fun catchy electronica tunes, Fritz and his band of phantoms are spreading their craziness all around Canada and want you to take a listen.

EQ is quite fond of their tracks 'Overtime' and 'Makin A Scene' in which you can catch a little glimpse of their video below.  The video features what I thought was a Nelly Furtado look-a-like, but when she does the ass-shake, it pretty much confirms that that person is indeed the real Nelly Furtado!  It good to see dearest Nelly getting a little EQ for her mates isn't it!

Make sure to check out Fritz Helder & The Phantoms on MySpace now and if you like what you hear, you can download their cleverly-titled debut album called 'Greatest Hits' on iTunes now.

'Makin A Scene' - Video

Meet John B - He's Been Stalking You on MySpace

Johnb

This is John B.  He's a bit of a hardcore party boy, DJ and remixer and he's been spending a large chunk of his time obsessing over people on MySpace.  He even penned a song about it which we happen to like called, quite simply, 'I've Been Stalking U On MySpace'.  Unsurprisingly enough, you can listen to it over on this MySpace profile as well.  We're quite fond of the 'Electrohouse Remix' - you weren't surprised by that at all now were you?

More importantly - we're way more impressed with his custom made Madonna t-shirt that he is sporting in above said photo.  In fact, we're somewhat jealous to say the least.  We want one.

More of John B's music and his outrageousness sense of dress and crazy hair can be found here.

I've Been Stalking You On MySpace - Electrohouse Remix

MySpace Discovery: Darin

Darin

Hey EQs.  Meet Darin Zanyar.  No relation to the other Darren we talk about a lot on this blog.  In fact, this Darin probably has a better chance of being related to Robyn and all since he is of Swedish decent, but probably not.  Anyways - last week we were minding our own business perusing the pop blogs when once again Pop Poster Girl wrote about this fantastic young artist and posted his video for his infectious electro-pop track 'Desire' which instantly got our juices flowing.  We then went on an exhaustive internet search for his tracks and videos and have been listening to Darin pretty much since then.  Hint - you can find the video for 'Desire' on UK iTunes.

What we like about Darin and especially 'Desire' and 'Insanity' is that it's a sound that's fresh, electro-tinged and led by a soulful voice that doesn't get drowned out in the production.  He's also hella-cute too.  Below are his vid-e-os of the above mentioned and you can stalk him on his MySpace page as well as his official website - which we haven't quite figured out how to get it to work in English yet.  We will however wait to see what else Darin puts out, he does have a penchant to lean on the R&B side a wee bit, but if he keeps churning out this damn fine electro-pop, he very well could bust his way into the EQ Royale this year.

Meet Valeria : She's Not A Sex Crazed Maniac...

Valeria

So I have to admit, I didn't really know too much about Valeria, who just happens to hold this weeks EQ Number One single with 'Girl I Told Ya', so I thought I'd take a cruise onto MySpace and learn some more about her.  Turns out, she's got a decent career in the works already in music and film and it's all looking rosy for this little starlet.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who wants to know about Valeria and her crazy antics with Ashton Kutcher so she went and prepared this little vid-e-o for all of us which let's you into her crazy world.

'Girl I Told Ya' is pretty electrolicious and I hope that her new album that comes out in March will give us some more of that flavour I love so much.

Say Hello to Valeria and make sure you check out her slightly racy and fun promo video now in EQ TV.

MySpace Discovery: Billie Ray Martin

Billieraymartin

Now before you go "Oh God EQ you're so lame...Billie Ray Martin has been around for ages!", let me just preface that by saying "I know".  I can remember dancing around to her classic tune 'Your Loving Arms' in the clubs way back in my university days (I think my first boyfriend bought me the CD single actually), but it wasn't until recently that I have sat up and listened to her music again in the way of new single 'Undisco Me' which DID made an appearance on the EQ Chart, but disappeared quite quickly.  Should I have heard the stunning and downright fucking crazy 'Acid Jacks Mix' which is available to download for free on her MySpace page, I might have gotten more excited!

Thanks to EQ reader David, I've been playing Billie Ray again around the loft and am absolutely in love with her new tracks - think classic disco with dramatic and orchestral moments sprinkled with some subtle sparkly sounds.  'Undisco Me' is a goddamned EQ classic.  Now David reckons the song should have gone to number one in the EQ Chart and maybe he is right - stay tuned for that but in the meantime take a moment to download your favourite mix of 'Undisco Me' over at iTunes or if you want to own a physical copy you can get one over at Perfectbeat.com - one of my favourite online record shops.

So isn't it time you re-discovered the vocal and soulful electro stylings of Billie Ray Martin again?  I think so and thanks to David for keeping le EQ in check.

MySpace Discovery: Marsheaux

Marsheaux

Oooh - do I have a treat for you.  Say hello to Marianthi and Sophie from Marsheaux.  These electro gals are pounding out their synthy sounds for you all the way from Greece and can I just say - I'm lovin them.  They are so unabashedly electro that it would be a downright crime not to mention them here on the EQ.  Their current top track on MySpace is a retro-tastic stomper called 'Dream Of A Disco' and it totally brings me back to le Pretty In Pink days for some strange reason.  I feel like cuttin up a pink prom dress and having a good old moan with Jon Cryer when I hear this song!  And if that's not enough, check out the sexy synths on 'Wait No More' and their brilliant cover of 'The Promise' by When In Rome.  Wow - that song was just waiting to have a good cover made of it wasn't it?!

I'll be keeping a curious eye on Marsheaux and so should you.  It's not often I find a really good electro gem like these lovely ladies in the plethora of electronic artists and quite literally they have me 'Hangin On' for more...I will definitley be downloading their catalog very shortly...

MySpace Discovery: James Leon

L_bfaa68ae42c162b8fb7a760bb6b479a8

James Leon reckons he's a bit of a dork.  But if you ask me, I think he's alright.  I keep running into his Banksy-inspired image across MySpace and it's just enough to get me to take a quick listen to his music.  His track 'Never Been Cool' is rather good.  It's a little new-wavish and it gets my head boppin.  His tunes 'Camera Shy' and 'Better Than The Night' are slices of 80's electro and we reckon that James is quite good at bringing that oh-so-80's-sound-that-I-love back.

So I like totally dig what James is doing, so you should go check him and his bedroom geekness out on MySpace today EQs!

MySpace Discovery: Paleday

Paleday

You know, we've been to a fair amount of press launches this year (a lot of which have been rather dull) but last night's party at the Soho Revue Bar for disco-funksters Paleday has definitley won the prize.  The event was pretty much a New Years Eve party complete with sparkly hats and an overly enthusiastic crowd that was dancing like it was 1999 the whole evening.  We've only just heard about Paleday the other day and to walk into a packed music venue full of what it seemed to be Paleday fans and eager press, it was rather exciting!

To describe Paleday in a nutshell, let's just call them a bit of Scissor Sisters attitude mixed in with the joyous sound of Culture Club with a sprinkling of Pet Shop Boys as you can see in their matching hats above.  The big song they are pushing is a new disco anthem called 'Eurotramp' which you can hear below - it reminds us that fun euro dance diddys haven't been lost forever - they are most certainly here to stay!  And you know that the EQ loves a good disco boogie after all dont'cha?!

So why don't you take a listen to Paleday now over on their MySpace or stream the track below. 'Eurotramp' will be released soon and in the words of the lead singer Anthony, "The album is coming, more than (he) did last year"!

Oh my - tee hee.

Eurotramp

And here's Gerilicous getting into the Paleday disco groove...

Getting Caught Up Digitalism

Digitalism

Hey haven't we seen this look before? It's so catching on isn't it...

Say hello to the boys from Digitalism.  Their crazy tune 'Idealistic' has had me raving all weekend and I'm absolutely in love with it.  It's a punch of hard-hitting electro at it's hardcore.  The boys have a sold out gig at The Scala in London tomorrow and people have been starting to really stir up the chitter chatter around the boys and their brand of "electronica/indie/other" that they describe themselves as.

If you have a second, check them out over on MySpace and for now take a look at their odd video to 'Idealistic'.  I promise you, you'll be raving too.  Now, where are my glowsticks?

Introducting Matthew Duffy

Matthewduffy

EQs - may we introduce you to Matthew Duffy.  He's an electro god in the making and we are absolutely loving his latest single '#1 Enemy' which is getting a bit of attention.  Matthew is New York based and has been working on making music for quite some time.  His first electronic album 'Here I Come' was released in 2004 which spawned a Billboard hit called 'Electric Shock' and the deeply-layered electronic track called 'Little Bird' - both of which videos you can see below.

We sorta stumbled upon Matthew's great sound by accident.  We were browsing some YouTube videos and found 'Electric Shock' which then led us to stalk his MySpace page in which we then found out that Arjan wrote about him ages ago.  We love it when stuff like this happens!  It certainly is fuel for an electroqueer obsession and Matthew seems to be the latest target!  So all last week, we've been playing 'Here I Come' and his latest album 'The Healing Machine' non-stop in the loft and the office, both of which are available on iTunes and on CDBaby if you prefer physical format - you really should be taking a listen.

So - to help you all understand our little obsession with Matthew, here's a little video vault for you and if you can - download his albums.  They are pretty much electro-luscious and we quite particularly love his cover of Jody Watley's classic 'Still A Thrill' which we've been secretly hoping someone would cover for quite a long time!  Check out his website as well - we will be making sure to bring you any new Matthew Duffy news as it develops...we'll be keeping a close eye on him.

Look out for more Matthew on EQ!

MySpace Discovery: James Murray

L_74d689d1ceb5811223c4de8c93eafe3b

He's got a great head of blond hair and his tunes aint bad either.  EQs say hello to James Murray.  I've mentioned James a few times before but today he gets his own MySpace discovery post.  Yay!  Now before you get all "What the heck, he aint very electronic" on our asses, let's just say that we haven't liked a pop/rock and folk-tinged artist like James Murray in a long time...probably since Paolo Nutini.  Now that is probably a comparison that James probably doesn't want to hear, but I can't stop humming his fab tunes around the house.  It's a good thing!

Having already played the Royal Albert Hall in opening for Darren Hayes, James has properly got the itch for the big time me thinks.  His music is so open and heartfelt that you just cannot, not like the dude.  His song 'Old Nana' is so adorable - James described it as his grandmother's honest concern and warning about  groupies and drugs as he starts his trip into the music industry.  Aww bless.  And what about his thoughts on size zero girls?  James tells em all to eat, cuz he likes a big bum.  Double bless.

Having met James twice now, I can honestly say he's a great guy too.  You'll want him to succeed just as much as I do, so why not take a moment and check him out on MySpace.  He really really wants you to!

MySpace Discovery: G'Pree

Gpree2

Say hello to G'Pree EQs.  Now I've never been much for the R&B flavour, I own a few Missy Elliot CDs and as any gay would and I can't wait for Jennifer Hudson to release an album, but whoa...G'Pree has brightened up my MySpace today with a friend request that made me go..."wow, I like that song".

The song in question is called 'Handle With Care' and you can play it in the little YouTubage below.  It has just enough keyboards in it to quality for some EQ love today and since I don't give too many nods to the R&B boys - G'Pree darling, this one is for you.

Do I see a new Craig David taking over the town...I thinks so.

Check out more of G'Pree over on his MySpace today and stop drooling over the photo ok!

MySpace Discovery: Melnyk

Melynk

Having already won accolades from a ton of well respected music magazines worldwide, Melynk seems to be on the fast track in proving to the world that he is an electro force to be reckoned with.  His electro tune 'Fabulous' has certainly brightened up our little world this afternoon with it's strange vocals and video.  Far more exciting to us than the strange vocals and video from, dare we dare say it, Kylie Minogue...

We are going to keep our eyes on Melynk and we are certainly glad we bumped into him and his tunes on MySpace today - you should most certainly check him out here.  Interestingly enough, he's another one to crop up on Gaymonkey records too and if you remember from awhile back, we were going on and on about this guy named Ebb on that same record label...

Melnyk's got some great stuff on offer and luckily enough for you, you can buy his last album 'Silence' and his remix album of the same name on all good download sites worldwide which also features a collaboration with our friends Temposhark...Check out is fabulous video to 'Fabulous'.

MySpace Discovery: The Unabashedly Electroqueer Ivri Lider

Ivri_2

So we were surfing MySpace this morning when we randomly bumped into Ivri Lider.  Ivri is an established Israeli rockstar who decided to take the scary plunge and come out and the result was a US release of his fantastic down-tempo electronic ballad called 'Jesse' which is very poignant and touching.  We couldn't take our eyes off the music video this morning as we haven't seen anything so unabashedly EQ like this since...well, Darren Hayes concert last week.

Take a look at the subtle, yet homo-erotic video to 'Jesse' below, Ivri's website which is located here and check out his MySpace to get all the details on this rising international star.

We'll be watching very very closely, you can bet on that.

MySpace Discovery: Ming & Ping

Mingping_2

When Simon Curtis told us about Ming & Ping we didn't pay too much attention - not because we weren't interested, but mostly because we were too busy on holiday soaking up the sun and sand.  However, we were recently reminded of them again and we had a listen to their tunez and wow - are we impressed or what!  Ming & Ping's electronic track 'Beautiful Things' is absolutely amazing.  Taking a little listen to their other tracks on MySpace - well let's just say that it's enough for us to go out right now and purchase their album 'Causeway Army' which is available on iTunes.

And how about their album cover eh?  Flawless.  Discover Ming & Ping for yourself right here or here.

MySpace Discovery : Wideband Network

Wideband

So the band Wideband Network is a bit of a mystery to us.  They conjure up interesting artwork for their albums and singles but we never really get to see their faces much.  How very Daft Punk of them.  However, despite this, they have EQ in a hypnotic trance everytime their lovely song '95' comes up on le iPod.  You may have noticed the song climbing the EQ Chart as well - that's how good we think it is.

So if you are looking for a few good electronic tunes to utterly enthrall you today, like they do us, then check them out on MySpace right now.  If you like what you hear, then you can of course buy most of their material on iTunes as well.  We have been jamming out to their album 'Ten Thousand Seconds' which is a few years old - but you never will hear us complaining about an undiscovered band or track that deserves to be talked about.  Look out for their new single 'The Anatomy Of A Human Bomb' dropping into your stratosphere sometime soon...

Oh and what the heck, because we like his face so much - here is a little piccy of Casey from Wideband Network...

MySpace Discovery: Nic Kat

Nic_cheeky_red

Say Hello to Nic Kat EQs!  Nic is an Aussie vocalist that has had us under his spell recently with his raunchy electro dance track called '82 86' that you can preview over on his MySpace page now.  The electro version of the track is so hot that we've been caught blasting it way too loud on the iPod whilst riding the underground and old ladies have been staring at us with evil eyes to turn it the hell down.  We don't care, the track is hot (as is Nic) and we want everyone to know that.

Nic is also a huge fan of the 80's and states that '82 86' is a complete reference throwback to that era as being one of the most influential times for music.  '82 86' most certainly does have an open and honest exclamation about casual sex that might just make you blush.  Whilst checking out this track, also take some time to groove to some of Nic Kat's other dance collaborations called 'Scream' and 'Some Lovin' which you will like if '82 86' floats your electro boat.

He's The Best Thing To Come From Russia Since Tatu : Meet Sergey Lazarev

Sergey

We had full intentions of doing a rant post today, but instead we stumbled upon a bright new talent named Sergey Lazarev that hails from Russia.  Having been offered a chance to buy his new CD single for his cover of Johnny Hates Jazz's classic 'Shattered Dreams', we couldn't help but do a little google search for this young man to see what else he's been up to.  Here is what we learned...

  • Sergey has a really fun and colourful MySpace page
  • Sergey likes to kiss and is probably quite the cassanova...check out his video to 'Everytime'.
  • Sergey looks a little bit like Elijah Wood and Breckin Meyer combined.
  • Sergey would like you to buy his CD single for 'Shattered Dreams'.
  • Sergey is a media nerd...you can download all his videos and a ton of his audio at his website!
  • Sergey has a mix to his song 'Fake' which is called 'The Gay Club Mix'.
  • Sergey is just adorable.

So it is with great pleasure that we present to you a new pop treasure to play with today.  We'll be watching Sergey quite closely here on EQ - welcome to the fold, young man.

Here's his sexy and stylish video to 'Shattered Dreams' to get you going...

MySpace Discovery: Ebb

Ebb

Meet Ebb.  He's a Swedish electronica maestro and we are finding it very hard to not compare him to Chris Martin of Coldplay, but it's probably the first thing you notice when take a listen to his brilliant tracks 'Life Is On TV' and 'I'm All Made Of Music' over at his MySpace page

Ebb puts together his lush tunes in such an elaborate arrangement that you'll find yourself not wanting to stop listening.  It's very good electronic music, backed by a soothing falsetto voice which echoes harmoniously into what you hear.  If you've burned out on Zero 7, Ebb might just be the prescription you need to to chillout and relax to this summer.  Go and buy your own copy of Ebb's album, 'Loona' which is available on Gaymonkey Records (probably the best name for a label we've heard in awhile) from all the usual download sites and check out his brilliant videos to the aforementioned tracks below.  How very 'ebb-citing'.

Life Is On TV

MySpace Discovery : bim

Bim

Ok we are always a little hesitant when we happen upon acts on MySpace that describe themselves as 'Acoustic / Electro / Pop'  because those three genres are very different in our humble opinions, but UK based unsigned duo bim deliver the combination quite elegantly.

With just one listen to 'The Battle' you'll be instantly seduced into a world of beautifully electronic arrangements and soothing vocals delivered magnificently by Rebecca Rosier and Tim Davis.  Tracks 'Stay In My Memory' and 'I Dream This World' are silky downtempo delights to be savoured as well.  We absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on some of these tracks as they could quite easily could be part of our essential soundtrack to summer.  Geesh - we sounded like one of those complilation cd telly adverts there...

If you are into artists like Sia, Dido, Lamb and Portishead then give bim a whirl.  We're spinning around in a moody, slightly melancholy musical haze right now as we continue to hit the play button on bim's Myspace.  Make Tim's smile go as wide and happy as Rebecca's and give them some good ol EQ love peeps!

MySpace Discovery : State City Disco

State_city_disco_3

Watch out EQs - State City Disco are making their way up the EQ Electro Chart with their head-boppin new electro track 'Excitment' and well can we just say, we are getting excited about this new band with every listen.  You may recognize frontman Alex Surguy from former electro boy group Veto Silver which were hugely underated in our humble opinions.  However, in this new electronic re-incarnation with Mitzi Deluxe pounding out some fab synths and Dr J Spectrum on guitars, we couldn't be more happy to welcome them into our little electronic world of whimsy.  For some reason, State City Disco are reminding us a lot of The Human League - we can't pinpoint why exactly, but it really doesn't matter now does it?  State City Disco are hot and we can't wait to see them live at the next Popshow on 17 July in London!

Check them out on MySpace now!

MySpace Discovery : Super Mal featuring Luciana

Supermal

Every once in awhile our friends 'one up us' and discover a group that has a fab track out that we didn't know about, and today's such example is Super Mal featuring Luciana.  Our good friend Artur turned us onto this track on Tuesday and kinda like Kylie's 'Cant Get You Outta My Head', we just can't stop be-bopping around to this little electro diddy treat.

Take a listen to some of the remixes to 'Bigger Than Big' on their MySpace page and check out the fun video below.  Looks like it gets a single release too on 9 July so get your little download fingers ready EQs!

MySpace Discovery: IAMX

Iamx

Sure his eye makeup is a little scary and those boots of his could do some harm (let's just say we wouldn't want to get kicked with em) but electro/indie crooner Chris Corner aka IAMX, formerly of Sneaker Pimps fame, has a new album called 'The Alternative' that he wants you to listen to.  You can get a taste of the album over at his MySpace page and if you really are intrigued, he has a whole list of gig dates where you can catch him doing what he does best on the road throughout Europe.

We actually are more than just a little intrigued, and if the below video for 'Spit It Out' is any indication of how potentially good his album may be, then hey, IAMX gets our music allowance this week.  What do you think?  Discuss in le comments and don't let the spider eyes scare ya.

MySpace Discovery: Scarlet Soho

Scarletsoho

Happy Monday EQs!  We have decided to axe the Wednesday part of our regular MySpace Discovery Wednesday feature due to the fact that life is too hectic nowadays to stick to a normal Wednesday deadline in blogland (who needs deadlines anyways), so instead of getting a new act every Wednesday, we'll be giving you new EQ acts when and where we feel like it!  Somehow, we thinks you probably won't mind!

So - Scarlet Soho have busted their way onto the pages of EQ today and we couldn't be anymore happier to introduce this hot new electro threesome to you.  Having just come off some live dates with The Delays, IAMX and Razorlight, they are poised and ready to launch their electrofest into your iPods with their brilliant new single 'Analogue Dialogue (Kill The Beat)' which we have been buzzing around to all week in the EQ office.  You will be sure to see this single rise on the EQ Chart so make sure you go and buy a physical copy of it over at Human Recordings or download it from iTunes.  Either way, you'll make Scarlet Soho quite happy if you do.

In the meantime - go check them out on MySpace.  We are planning a wee interview with the band too so stay tuned to this bat channel and let the band know what you think of them in the comments!

MySpace Discovery Wednesday: The Ultrasonics

In today's edition of MySpace Discovery Wednesday - we bring you The Ultrasonics.

The Ultrasonics are planning their electro-fest-takeover in first single 'Why You Had To Leave' which is a powerful new-wave/electro-pop dance track that has us jumping up and down like a like a cheerleader with radioactive pom-poms.  The Ultrasonics will also be making their Popshow debut on 30th May at Soho Revue Bar in London alongside EQ faves Switch22 and The Electric Dolls and we can't wait to hear more from this unique collaboration.  We'd have to agree they are one of the brightest finds of 2007 as well.

Listen and learn more about The Ultrasonics over at their MySpace or at their official website.

MySpace Discovery Wednesday: Nelson Clemente

Nelson

Welcome to another fine edition of MySpace Discovery Wednesdays our fine EQs.  In today's edition we have the extreme pleasure of introducing you to Nelson Clemente.  Currently residing in Perth, Australia - Nelson has been very busy launching his musical electro and 80's-tinged gospel onto the world.  He is preparing to release his debut EP called '6th Perception' and a sampling of his tracks can be heard over at his MySpace Page.

You may have noticed Nelson's sublime gem-of-a-track 'You Me Us We' climbing the EQ Chart lately.  This song is a fantastic introduction to the type of sound that you can expect from Nelson's music, it really has an 80's OMD-inspired innocence to it that just makes you want to put the track on repeat over and over again.  'You Want Me Don't You' and 'It's All My Fault' are fantastically-fun tracks as well complete with electro dance synths and drum machine beats that feel like they are straight out of a Corey Hart video.

As an exclusive to Electroqueer readers - Nelson has offered up two exclusive electro and house remixes to 'You Want Me Don't You' which can be downloaded here.  Make sure take a listen to Nelson Clemente today and download some of his new tracks over at his website - he's one of those artists that we are keeping a close eye on this year.

MySpace Discovery: Nathan Walters

Say Hello to Nathan Walters EQ readers.  We first had a listen to the wonderful pop sounds of Nathan Walters quite awhile ago when Simon Curtis mentioned him in an EQ interview and we bookmarked him in hopes that we'd get to hear more from this rising talent further down the road.

Well, Nathan has just launched his website www.nathanwaltersmusic.com and you can preview some of his brilliant tracks like the angsty 'Makes Me Love You' and and the gripping 'Romance You' as well as some entertaining audio blogs which delve into his crazy personal life and the two year recording process that Nathan has endured in preparing for the completion of his record.

We are waiting with a heavy amount of curiosity for his record and so should you...so bookmark him on Myspace and take a cruise onto his profile every once in awhile to see how his solid and beautiful pop tracks are coming along.

MySpace Discovery Wednesday: Steve Peters

Here at Electroqueer, we like to think that we are the coolest thing to ever be spawned from Hermiston, Oregon but apparently, we are not.  LOL.  Last week one of our best mates from high school got in touch with us and told us about up-and-coming electro kid on the block, Steve Peters.

Steve Peters resides in Washington state and has just released his debut electronic CD Single for 'Broken' which is throwback to the days of Depeche Mode and Cause & Effect.  We absolutely love it.  Never in a million years would we have thought that a cool electro artist would come from our little hometown - we probably would have been bestest of friends if EQ wasn't too busy selling candy bars and cassette tapes i
