EQ Discovery: YADi

YADi

By Mandy Rogers

Hannah YADi is an artist in every sense of the word, all encompassing creativeness with a distinctively fresh strike of heavenly alternative pop flavour that is hard not to instantly adore.

The name YADi has been filtering excitement online with demos and such for quite sometime, although it’s been fashioned as quite low key, the response from wherever it’s glistened has been of the wholly favourable kind which has seen to help elevate her from unsigned to recently signed.

Infact, I already brought her forward as one to watch, but seeing as now with full label backing behind her, she’s been able to refine and showcase her beautiful chugging alternative pop tunes to the maximum, I feel a maximum post of EQ Discovery is warranted.

As “Guillotine” jumps from the one of the first demos that peeked up online around two years ago, it’s now been given some polish and a suitably eclectic otherworldly themed video treatment that’s spellbindingly good.

Fans of Marina / La Roux should indeed begin to go nuts for YADi too, as I think she’s just warming up a little and is going to be quite a one to keep the eyes and ears keenly looking / listening on.

EQ Discovery: Churches

Churches 1

By Mandy Rogers

Over the past few days I have become like, utterly obsessed by a brand new band called Churches.

A Scottish trio formed of Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry, spawned from bands Aereogramme / The Unwinding Hours, Twilight Sad Fame and Blue Sky Archives, respectively.

The band only broke out online over the past month, debuting just one track “Lies”. However, in terms of a taster track, this is one that goes straight in at the jugular as a mighty roaring Goliath of sinuous synth strength, bulldozing and pounding it’s way through cavities and flowing it’s surging synth pulse into the veins of it’s host, with such vigour that warrants it as an incredibly exciting beginning.

This is a year 2012 kick up the 80’s fix, of penetrating synth flamboyance, held in New Romantic esteem to bands like VisageFade To Grey” and Human LeagueDon’t You Want Me”.

If this is just test run on a sound the band are considering to project, I suggest they run with it, for it is tantalisingly jaw droppingly terrific!

EQ Discovery: Concrete Rose

Concrete Rose

By Mandy Rogers

Concrete Rose know how to strike a pose don’t they? Well, believe me this über sassy foursome mean business! So let’s get acquainted with the London based lovelies Danni, Libby, Sarah and Kerry-Lucy, as they begin to step out and show out how the girls can bring a more R’n’B contemporary sound into the candy pop dominated world of girl group’s.

Concrete Rose are not only coming at us with their wardrobe fierceness but also with calibre. Amongst them, they boast alumni’s from the Brit School, London School of Musical Theatre and Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts. Yes, these girls are serious about their craft, but basically they have all been singing practically as soon as they could talk and have been doing it ever since!

Whilst we are in the early days for the band, there is no denying that they possess starlet quality with the ability to fill up to a measure of big pop harmonies between them.

Best way to get a feel for the band is to take a listen to the teasers of “How To Kill A Ghost” and “Anonymous” and in doing so I hope you’ll find them to be on the hot tip of success that I feel they are more than ready and worthy for.
