Support World Aids Day by Downloading 'Lovers & Best Friends'

Lee_lovers_graphic

Tomorrow is World Aids Day.  What can you do to contribute?  Well you can download 4th Child's brilliant new single 'Lovers & Best Friends' right now over on iTunes, TuneTribe and Napster.  All proceeds from the single purchase will go towards The Gay Men's Health Charity and in my opinion - it's a worthy cause.

Lee (aka 4th Child) explains that the organization was in crisis due to lack of funding, so you can do your part by spending just 79p on this brilliant electronic single right now, which despite most charity records - this one is actually good.  You can view the video over in EQ TV right now.

Do it for EQ.

Do it for a worthy cause.

Do your part.

Women Should Just Stay In The Kitchen...

Bc

We might have to disagree with you there 'kittercat'.

Bubbles & Cheesecake have recently sparked up some controversy with their debut video to 'It's A Woman Thang' in which you can read all the heated comments over here on YouTube - apparently their video went viral within 24 hours reaching more than 300,000 views!  A press release was issued this morning in which Holly Palmer and Alee Willis from the girl power duo had this to say:

“This was written purely as a pop soul song; not at all political,” says Willis. “It does talk about how sometimes women have trouble standing up for themselves, but it’s really about self-esteem for everyone – about having enough of a sense of yourself to claim what’s right for you.”

Palmer commented, “I was very surprised at the anger out there directed at a couple of people having fun. In a way, it goes right to the heart of what we’re talking about with Bubbles & Cheesecake – everybody has the right to their own voice, no matter what resistance it meets.” Willis added, “It’s no wonder many women are afraid to express themselves, given some of the comments we’ve seen.

“It’s crazy being in the middle of an unintended controversy,” Willis concludes, “but the greatest thing our art can do is spotlight something that’s not working in the culture, and point to things that are more positive. It’s a hard position for us to be in, because all you want to do is make art. But we also feel we must be doing significant work if we’ve hit such a nerve with this song.”

Electroqueer has been championing these lovely ladies since they burst onto the net so make sure you go and check them out on MySpace - they are pretty damn brilliant to say the least.

MySpace Discovery: Billie Ray Martin

Billieraymartin

Now before you go "Oh God EQ you're so lame...Billie Ray Martin has been around for ages!", let me just preface that by saying "I know".  I can remember dancing around to her classic tune 'Your Loving Arms' in the clubs way back in my university days (I think my first boyfriend bought me the CD single actually), but it wasn't until recently that I have sat up and listened to her music again in the way of new single 'Undisco Me' which DID made an appearance on the EQ Chart, but disappeared quite quickly.  Should I have heard the stunning and downright fucking crazy 'Acid Jacks Mix' which is available to download for free on her MySpace page, I might have gotten more excited!

Thanks to EQ reader David, I've been playing Billie Ray again around the loft and am absolutely in love with her new tracks - think classic disco with dramatic and orchestral moments sprinkled with some subtle sparkly sounds.  'Undisco Me' is a goddamned EQ classic.  Now David reckons the song should have gone to number one in the EQ Chart and maybe he is right - stay tuned for that but in the meantime take a moment to download your favourite mix of 'Undisco Me' over at iTunes or if you want to own a physical copy you can get one over at Perfectbeat.com - one of my favourite online record shops.

So isn't it time you re-discovered the vocal and soulful electro stylings of Billie Ray Martin again?  I think so and thanks to David for keeping le EQ in check.

Robyn's New Video To Be Mine!

Hey EQs, here is Robyn's new video to Be Mine!  She's in a kebab shop for a portion of the video.  I love it.  I think it would be rather cool if she a video to the ballad version of this song too, but I won't count on that.  Regardless - this song should be a smash if you ask me.

When In Rome

Hey EQs - just a quick note to let you all know that I am in Rome and regular blogging will return on Thursday when I am back in Londontown.  Rome is great - I love it.  Have been eating loads of pizza, delicious fish and these little delights called "Pocket Coffees".  Yum.

Gerilicious and I have also been hanging out with Emma from Darren Hayesland.  Speaking of, did you read his blog about the yogurt - fucking hilarious.  Emma has had the pleasure (or displeasure if you will) of helping us shop for D&G underwear!  LOL.  Love you Emma!

Leave Geri and I some fun comments so we can read them on the way back to London via Munich on Wednesday night ok!

Oooh - It's the single cover to Robyn's Be Mine!

Robyn_bemine_cover_nllge

Oooh - check it out.  It's the single cover for Robyn's next big smash 'Be Mine'.  The look on her face looks as if she is seeing the other woman at the station that she's referencing in the song.  Moody.  I love it.

Word on the street is that we can download the Radio version of 'Be Mine' from 30th December with the CD single and other fun formats available from 14th January.

She Said Yes Release their EP!

She_said_yes

Finally some news on the She Said Yes front!  Yes it's true, those spunky electro aussies have released their new EP for 'All My Fault/Plastic' which you can now download on iTunes UK.  Sorry I haven't bothered to check if it's available any where else, but if you are hungry for their tunage as much as I am, then 'check your local listings' as they say.

To check out why I keep going on about them, check out their tracks on Myspace and if you recall, this is what Darren Hayes said about them on EQ: "She Said Yes is a band that features my fellow Australian friend Tania Doko on vocals and my ex drummer Karl Lewis.  Tania was the singer in a pop group in Oz called ‘Bachelor Girl’ but did the old electro transformation and has me under her spell now!"

So what are you waiting for EQs...get downloading now!

MySpace Discovery: Marsheaux

Marsheaux

Oooh - do I have a treat for you.  Say hello to Marianthi and Sophie from Marsheaux.  These electro gals are pounding out their synthy sounds for you all the way from Greece and can I just say - I'm lovin them.  They are so unabashedly electro that it would be a downright crime not to mention them here on the EQ.  Their current top track on MySpace is a retro-tastic stomper called 'Dream Of A Disco' and it totally brings me back to le Pretty In Pink days for some strange reason.  I feel like cuttin up a pink prom dress and having a good old moan with Jon Cryer when I hear this song!  And if that's not enough, check out the sexy synths on 'Wait No More' and their brilliant cover of 'The Promise' by When In Rome.  Wow - that song was just waiting to have a good cover made of it wasn't it?!

I'll be keeping a curious eye on Marsheaux and so should you.  It's not often I find a really good electro gem like these lovely ladies in the plethora of electronic artists and quite literally they have me 'Hangin On' for more...I will definitley be downloading their catalog very shortly...

Hear Madonna Singing 'Each Time You Break My Heart'

I have no idea if this is old news or new news, but here is Madonna singing her demo version of 'Each Time You Break My Heart' by Nick Kamen. Nevertheless, I thought it was kinda interesting as I haven't heard this before and I'm somewhat of a Nick Kamen fan - you might remember this...

EQ Verdict: Nick's version is better. sigh.

Peter Gelderblom's 'Waiting 4' and Booty Luv's 'Some Kinda Rush'

Well this is rather cool isn't it?

Lifted from the press release:  "Starting life as a bootleg of the Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s ‘By The Way’, the record immediately had the underground scene buzzing, as the likes of Judge Jules and David Guetta clamoured to get their hands on the track that had crowds chanting for it to be played."

EQ Verdict - I like it.  Especially the beep beep bits.

And here we see Booty Luv in their new video to 'Some Kinda Rush'.  This video wasn't what I was expecting from the dancefloor divas, but nevertheless - I love the new track and have to go with Popjustice on this one - it's the best one on the album.

This Is How I'm Feeling Today

1190669449_mg_8329res

Like this picture of Sergey - this is how I'm feeling today.  You ever have one of those days?  It's certainly THAT day for me.  Call me a Daniel Powter song, tape up my lips and tie me up with thick electrical cabling.

I even ate McDonalds - that's how crap today is.  Sigh.

Ranting For The Masses or I'm Just Ranting in the Rain...

Happy Monday EQs.  Well didn't this weekend's weather in London SUCK?!  OMG - it like totally rained the whole time and it was windy as well which made the raindrops feel like razor blades against my face.  Oh well - despite the horrible weather, this weekend in London was a vibrant one full of fun and excitement.  Geri's twin brother, Antonio arrived from Palermo (in Sicily) on Friday night and Ronnie the cat and I been getting throughly confused by having two Italian twin brothers bee-bop around the loft.  We all dined at Wahaca on Saturday night - my new favourite London restaurant which serves very good Mexican tapas at a reasonable price in which we then hit a party for Louise (aka EQ Sugamama) and then we all ended up at XXL for some partying with the big boys in which I was getting jealous looks all night from guys who thought I bagged a twin twosome.  hahaha - let them think that!  Last night we ate at the rather expensive Ping Pong in which we paid almost 100 quid for dim sum (it was good, but not that good - you can get the same thing in Chinatown for about 40 quid) and then took a romantic night trip on the London Eye (London is so pretty at night) to then end up at the IMAX theatre seeing 'Beowulf' in larger than life 3D beautifulness.  A great weekend even if it was stereotypical London weather.

On with the rants...

  • In the midst of the madness, we ran into Jeffree Star in Soho.  He looks a lot different without the white skin makeup.  I wanted to interview him for EQ but the bitch never got back to me.  He must be busy with having like 1 million MySpace friends and all.
  • Just got the new Gorillaz album 'D-Sides' in from Parlophone - I will be listening to it and hopefully will give you some thoughts on it!
  • Yay for Nathan Walters - it looks like he is going to open for Darren Hayes in New York on 28 November.  I am really jealous - Nathan's music is divine and that would be such a perfect gig for moi if I lived in New York.  Nathan's got a couple new songs posted on his MySpace too so you should check em out.
  • Well ok, speaking of perfect nights out - I am off to the Darren Hayes New Years Eve party in Soho next month in which Mr. Hayes will be taking to the DJ decks (I expect to hear A LOT of Prince) after the new year is rung in and after he performs an exclusive live set.  What a way to end the year!
  • I am listening to my Depeche Mode Ultimate Mix now on my iPod.  It must be that time of year again where I overdose/feast on Depeche Mode brilliance and then get totally burnt out on it for for another 6 months or so.
  • Maybe I will go see The Cure in concert at Wembley.  I can't believe it, but I have NEVER seen them live.  Kinda blasphemy isn't it?  Oh damn, the show isn't until March 2008...like I can plan that far ahead.  Another blasphemy - I have never seen Everything But The Girl live either...I have been to a few Ben Watt DJ nights though with Tracey in tow...
  • I have to shamefully admit - I kinda want to go see the Spice Girls at the O2 Arena.  Only because I haven't got to see a show there yet and the whole venue is a technical marvel.  They don't bother me too much and I happen to like Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton a little bit.  I didn't live in England during the Spice Girls world domination so I'm a bit Spice curious...
  • Paleday continue to make me smile.  I can't get 'Eurotramp' outta my head.
  • I'm SO behind on my interviews.  I have loads lined up but have been so bad at sitting down and sorting out my questions.  I promise to get some of those done soon EQs!
  • And finally...well there is no finally because I rambled on too much.  However - do you like the new banner?  I'm a little so/so with it.  I decided to take the EQ Fold off of it because well, not a lot of people know who they are...YET!  But I'm working on putting up a new little home for the le fold.  And - I wanted a new, somewhat lighter font.  It probably sucks shit either way - but you'll have to let me experiment until I'm happy.  Until tomorrow EQs...

MySpace Discovery: James Leon

L_bfaa68ae42c162b8fb7a760bb6b479a8

James Leon reckons he's a bit of a dork.  But if you ask me, I think he's alright.  I keep running into his Banksy-inspired image across MySpace and it's just enough to get me to take a quick listen to his music.  His track 'Never Been Cool' is rather good.  It's a little new-wavish and it gets my head boppin.  His tunes 'Camera Shy' and 'Better Than The Night' are slices of 80's electro and we reckon that James is quite good at bringing that oh-so-80's-sound-that-I-love back.

So I like totally dig what James is doing, so you should go check him and his bedroom geekness out on MySpace today EQs!

Inside EQ: The Bitch Is Funny

If you have never heard of Pam Ann before, then you are truly missing out. She's the most famous and most fabulous non-PC air hostess from hell and we love her to death. We always try to fly with her and catch her show whenever it's in Londontown and if feel like laughing your ass off as we head into the Christmas season, then Pam Ann will be the remedy you need. If you can't catch one of her shows - why not buy her DVD? All the info is found at her website and if you don't believe our words, then believe Madonna's, who says Pam Ann is "cruelly funny".

And if you haven't seen Pam Ann's collaboration with British Airways - it's great. At least BA have a sense of humour.

MySpace Discovery: Paleday

Paleday

You know, we've been to a fair amount of press launches this year (a lot of which have been rather dull) but last night's party at the Soho Revue Bar for disco-funksters Paleday has definitley won the prize.  The event was pretty much a New Years Eve party complete with sparkly hats and an overly enthusiastic crowd that was dancing like it was 1999 the whole evening.  We've only just heard about Paleday the other day and to walk into a packed music venue full of what it seemed to be Paleday fans and eager press, it was rather exciting!

To describe Paleday in a nutshell, let's just call them a bit of Scissor Sisters attitude mixed in with the joyous sound of Culture Club with a sprinkling of Pet Shop Boys as you can see in their matching hats above.  The big song they are pushing is a new disco anthem called 'Eurotramp' which you can hear below - it reminds us that fun euro dance diddys haven't been lost forever - they are most certainly here to stay!  And you know that the EQ loves a good disco boogie after all dont'cha?!

So why don't you take a listen to Paleday now over on their MySpace or stream the track below. 'Eurotramp' will be released soon and in the words of the lead singer Anthony, "The album is coming, more than (he) did last year"!

Oh my - tee hee.

Eurotramp

And here's Gerilicous getting into the Paleday disco groove...

It's Funny Being A Gay Blogger Sometimes...

Sergey3

So it seems EQ has stirred up some opinions over on the forums of his Russian website.  EQ is just too gay for at least one of Sergey's fans apparently - or at least that is what I can make out of translating the thread - it reads roughly "the blog isn't qualified to talk about Sergey's music - they are more interested in the appearance of boys".  Well, maybe a sliver of truth to that if you take all my comments seriously, but I'm sure if Sergey or his lovely manager Annie thought "like that" they would have never agreed to let me interview him.

So just get over it people - it's 2007.  And for the record, Sergey's music is absolutley lovely, inspired and pop genius, regardless of whether or not this blog's author is a homo.  We want everyone GLOBALLY to know that.  He deserves to be a huge superstar.

And he does have lovely hair doesn't he? - I thought it was a great question for an interview!

But what do you think...

It's All About The Remix EQs

Remixgraphic

Three indie artists/EQ Folders have recently been working very hard in the studio in getting some quality remixes out to us and I have to say - I'm bloody impressed.

Darren Hayes new single 'Me, Myself and I' was released yesterday in the UK and it comes with an impressive remix and collectibles package that you should be getting your hands on if you are a true blue follower of the legend himself.  Not only does the maxi single and iTunes packages have some fun remixes of 'Me Myself and I' (I love the version where Darren channels Dead Or Alive) - you are also treated to some new demo songs - including the fantastic 'Let's Go' which sees Darren living out some of his electronic obsessions again.  The collectible bit also sees Darren giving us some red and green vinyl just in time for Christmas in which you will probably want to dust off your record player just to give them a spin - perfect stuff too should you want it autographed.  Darren honey, if you want to send over an autographed green vinyl record - we'd love you forever ;)  Like we already don't.  LOL.

Robyn continues to wow with her Soulseekerz remix of 'Handle Me' which has already been in the shops for a few weeks.  This remix makes the pop diddy very danceable and club friendly and it's probably the reason she's still in the UK chart's this week at a respectable Number 18.  I can't go anywhere these days without seeing a Robyn poster plastered up in the tube or on a billboard.  Girlfriend has a huge marketing push behind her and I think it's come just in time.  Expect her next single 'Be Mine' to explode.

Nelson Clemente has totally shocked us with his stunning Brian Canham electro guitar remix to 'It's All My Fault' in which we see this electronic pop boy go a little Linkin Park on us!  When Nelson first told me that he was going to surprise us with this remix, we kinda went "um ok".  But after hearing it in HQ yesterday for the first time - we were "something kinda ooh!" and only in the good way!  You can hear a clip of the remix over at his MySpace.  Nelson continues to churn out quality music adding this mighty fine remix which-could-be-an-ear-perking single to his catalog.  If he continues along at this pace, he'll enough great material to compile a most interesting and quality full-length album!

Getting Caught Up Digitalism

Digitalism

Hey haven't we seen this look before? It's so catching on isn't it...

Say hello to the boys from Digitalism.  Their crazy tune 'Idealistic' has had me raving all weekend and I'm absolutely in love with it.  It's a punch of hard-hitting electro at it's hardcore.  The boys have a sold out gig at The Scala in London tomorrow and people have been starting to really stir up the chitter chatter around the boys and their brand of "electronica/indie/other" that they describe themselves as.

If you have a second, check them out over on MySpace and for now take a look at their odd video to 'Idealistic'.  I promise you, you'll be raving too.  Now, where are my glowsticks?

Free Remixes From Matthew Duffy

L_d3f7d5a03c829600708f02871b2857b0

Well what the heck is going on here Matthew Duffy

Matthew Duffy has been so kind to offer up some remixes of his fucking fantastic EQ Charter '#1 Enemy' over on his MySpace profile so make sure you take 30 seconds and download them now.  I quite like the sexy Kevin Graves mix myself.  Very electrolicious.

If you haven't picked up your copy of 'The Healing Machine' now - what the hell are you waiting for?  So says EQ.

Excuse Us While We Have A Diva Moment.

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Tiffany.

We all have our divas whether it be Madonna, Janet, Mariah, Jo-Lo or nowadays Robyn. But my diva will always be Tiffany. Recently Tiffany wowed an up-for-it crowd in upland California with a club appearance in which she made every hardcore fan over-the-moon by performing 'New Inside' - a track that got very little airplay in 1992 despite it's colloboration with New Kids On The Block cheese Donnie Wahlberg. Tiffany also took a minute to talk about her 18 year chart return with her recent Billboard Club hit 'Higher' which got the remix treatment from Josh Harris and you can hear it in our 'Music On The Verge' section.

Take a minute to check out the performances from the Oasis club in this quality Youtubage below.

Are We Overpowered By - Roisin Murphy?...

Roisin

Raj says:  Say hello to one of our favourite ladies who I have come to know and love - let's call her 'Electrowoman' shall we?!  Electrowoman is a huge part of my blog and if it wasn't for her, it's hard to say that EQ would have gotten any hits at all.  It's true.  She's an adorable little gal and completely gets everything that I go on about.  If I were to get hit by a bus tomorrow, only she could take over this blog for me.  So having said that, Electrowoman has written up a little diddy for us on the one and only Roisin Murphy who has blown up so big now, that even she can't quite believe it and has banged her little nogin up in disbelief.  Take it away EW...

You may have noticed EQ has had quite a liking for Roisin Murphy lately, both 'Overpowered' and 'Let Me Know' have been featured in the EQ Chart with the funky ladies videos currently available for you to oogle over in our EQ TV section.

So what’s the low down on the long player?  Well in a nutshell it’s a heady mix of soulful electronic funk, all encasing some rather well thought out lyrics.  Roisin has taken on board a very credible band of producers with the workmanship of Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Seiji (Bugz In The Attic) and Richard X all being being present on this soul driven, glittery disco stomper.

The quirkier sounding tracks such as 'Dear Miami' , 'Tell Everybody', and 'Body Language' all interweave their way quite effortlessly around the more dancier tracks 'Cry Baby' and 'Movie Star'.  The later being quite Goldfrapp-esque it has to be said.  Notably the album version of 'Let Me Know' has a breathtaking acoustic vocal intro that we could quite easily have had more of.  It’s not always good to hear some tracks stripped raw but this would have been welcome purchase amongst all those 'Let Me Know' remixes on iTunes.

Other than the two releases to date, hopefully Roisin will endulge us by releasing 'You Know Me Better' as a future single, we can but hope!  So to answer the question "Are we Overpowered by Roisin Murphy?"

Yes Roisin you get a triumphant thumbs up from EQ.

More Roisin Murphy...

The Electroqueer Fold Update

Hey EQs - lots of things are happening in our roster of brilliant artists otherwise known as The Electroqueer Fold, so here's a little update for you.  We pretty much have picked out the new Electroqueer Fold which will make it's debut closer to Christmastime as well as our grandious feature on Electroqueer Of The Year 2007.  Will Darren Hayes be crowned again?  Will Robyn snatch up the prize?  Who will win this strange title from us?  You may be suprised, you may not be...

  • Antigone has finished her album and is putting the finishing touches on it.  She also just completed the photo session for her album cover in which we are salivating just thinking about what sultry shots will make the final cut!
  • BWO finally get around to releasing some music in the UK and the USA.  Fabricator is making the rounds in America now and CD singles for 'Rhythm Drives Me Crazy' and 'Destiny Of Love' have been spotted in fine music stores such as perfectbeat.com
  • Client release their "third single, the addictive mid-tempo disco track 'It's Not Over'.  With a stomping shuffle beat, a lushly whispered verse part, and an ultra-catchy chorus, this minimalist electro pop song is destined to blow you away."
  • Dangerous Muse still continue to wow with their latest release of 'Every Day Is Halloween' which has been keeping us throughly satisfied until they finish their album and Mike has even been seen canoodling with Margaret Cho.
  • Darren Hayes still continues to work his butt off.  He's trying to wow America with an exclusive acoustic tour of Borders Books but will be around in London for New Years an says that he is throwing a special party for all of us...set aside some money for tickets EQs!
  • Dragonette is wowing their home country of Canada with their live show.
  • The Electric Dolls launch their very own blog!
  • Imogen Heap continues to blog and was named a "mbira-picking MySpace queen" by Thisislondon.co.uk who recently reviewed her performance of 'Glittering Clouds' at the Barbican.
  • Madison recently wowed Brighton with his live show over Halloween.
  • Robyn is off to Australia to do some more live shows in her effort to slowly take over the world and you can even download an album sampler on the link.  We can't go anywhere now without seeing massive posters of Robyn all over London.  We are still stoked that we got to meet her.
  • Nelson Clemente goes a little electro-rock on us with a remix for 'It's All My Fault' that was produced by a former member of Pseudo Echo.
  • Sergey Lazarev is touring touring touring Russia and is caught shirtless on his Russian website.  Sigh.
  • Simon Curtis gets Paul Zapping to run his Street Team for him and we hear he's got a management deal now!
  • Siobhan Donaghy still is in Rent Remixed which is still getting so so reviews.
  • State City Disco are booking as many gigs as they can in London and continue to spread their "pop glamour, urban grit and electro frenzy" around town.
  • Switch22 are proud of their new mixes and you can even hear a sample of them over at their MySpace to get you in the mood.
  • Temposhark's Rob gets feisty in Istanbul with a little kitten.
  • Tracey Thorn is rocking her new mixes to 'Grand Canyon' and has posted some new pics of herself in glorious fluorescent lighting on her MySpace.
  • Tiffany still enjoys her Billboard Dance Chart success with 'Higher' which reached number 21!  Not bad as it was her first charting single since the 80s mall days!  Fans are heavily demanding a video to the song.
  • Young Love is out headlining the MySpace Music Tour in America along with Hellogoodbye.

And here we see the first glimpse of the animated Electric Dolls busting outta the toy store!

Don't You Forget About Me: Alex Parks

Alexparks

She is the pint-sized Cornwall girl who just happens to be so talented that she won the second season of BBC's Fame Academy here in the UK.  Her voice is just so magical and real that it's hard for anybody not to stop and say "Wow - girl has a set of lungs on her".  Her cover of Tears For Fears 'Mad World' is WAY better than the version that released by Gary Jules' from the Donnie Darko soundtrack and her two albums 'Introduction' and 'Honesty' are poignant efforts which delight our ears everytime we are feeling a bit mellow and chill.

Alex Parks has always been a little under-appreciated in the world of pop but it is apparent that when you see her live that she still has a sizable and dedicated fan base who appreciates her gripping and powerful voice.  Her song 'Cry' is one our favourite songs of all time so having said that, if you haven't checked out the wonderful vocal stylings of Alex Parks, then do so in our little video vault below or her website.  And if you have forgotten about her already like yesterday's news, isn't it time you take another listen today?  Maybe that's what it takes eh?

Introducting Matthew Duffy

Matthewduffy

EQs - may we introduce you to Matthew Duffy.  He's an electro god in the making and we are absolutely loving his latest single '#1 Enemy' which is getting a bit of attention.  Matthew is New York based and has been working on making music for quite some time.  His first electronic album 'Here I Come' was released in 2004 which spawned a Billboard hit called 'Electric Shock' and the deeply-layered electronic track called 'Little Bird' - both of which videos you can see below.

We sorta stumbled upon Matthew's great sound by accident.  We were browsing some YouTube videos and found 'Electric Shock' which then led us to stalk his MySpace page in which we then found out that Arjan wrote about him ages ago.  We love it when stuff like this happens!  It certainly is fuel for an electroqueer obsession and Matthew seems to be the latest target!  So all last week, we've been playing 'Here I Come' and his latest album 'The Healing Machine' non-stop in the loft and the office, both of which are available on iTunes and on CDBaby if you prefer physical format - you really should be taking a listen.

So - to help you all understand our little obsession with Matthew, here's a little video vault for you and if you can - download his albums.  They are pretty much electro-luscious and we quite particularly love his cover of Jody Watley's classic 'Still A Thrill' which we've been secretly hoping someone would cover for quite a long time!  Check out his website as well - we will be making sure to bring you any new Matthew Duffy news as it develops...we'll be keeping a close eye on him.

Look out for more Matthew on EQ!

Rant Like No One's Watching...

Oh EQs...it's already Sunday bloody Sunday. I hate Sundays and that ever-looming fact that you have to go to work again on Monday morning. I was supposed to have a lovely day out and about with Keeleylicious but she cancelled because she has a lesbian hangover again. If you don't know what that means, then you are...well, it's best you not know. hehehe. So I'm torn. Should I head off to Dyke-EA today to do some shopping for the loft? Or should I just be a bit of a lazy sod and have a nice day at home chuck full of little naps and fits of cleaning frenzy? Sigh. Either way, I know I'll end up seeing '30 Days Of Night' with Gerilicious tonite and getting scared out of my britches. Eeek. On with the rants...

  • Ok the weirdest thing just happened...was told that the Unklejam album was being pushed back until February, but I just downloaded it from iTunes!?! WTF. To prove that I'm not going crazy, it's still not listed on any music retailers sites nor on their MySpace. How very twilight zone eh? Am listening to it right now, but I think I know why Virgin is delaying the release now...it doesn't sound finished. It's good, but something is a little off about it...
  • Crikey. I like Britney Spears new album. It's ok and VERY ELECTRO. How very twilight zoneish again. They say that an artist's best work stems from their worst times in life and this could very well be true in this case with Britters. I quite like 'Piece Of Me' and 'Freakshow'.
  • I can't get that Viktor song outta my head. It's brilliant. See below.
  • Matthew Fucking Duffy.
  • So after y'all went out and voted for Naked Highway to enter the Logo video charts - they did it. With almost 4000 votes their electro stomper 'Better Off Naked' entered in at number 9! Not bad at all.
  • I might be taking a small posse to the Darren Hayes single release party for 'Me, Myself and I' at the Soho Revue Bar in a few weeks. Anyone else up for it?
  • Popjustice is right. The Stuart Price remix of 'D.A.N.C.E' by Justice is HOT. You can grab it over on iTunes now.
  • Isn't it funny seeing Ladytron's single in the shops for 'Destroy Everything You Touch'. It seems like over two years ago when I first downloaded it. Oh well, a good song always deserves another go in my book.
  • And finally, I have fallen in love with Bubbles and Cheescake. How could you not? I leave you with their zany video to 'It's A Woman Thang'. I wanna interview these ladies! Time to call it in!

Music On The Verge - Viktor : The Boy Who Cried Wolf

1526896278_e1e474b8ac

We can't get enough of this song lately.  It's called 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' by Viktor.  The premise of the song...well it's happened so many times in our youth.  You start sleeping with a guy who claims to be straight.  It's exciting, it's thrilling - it's annoying when he won't go the club with you and then calls you at ungodly hours of the morning wanting some boo-tay.  Viktor and EQ say "LOSER".

Viktor's track is a total throwback to the 80's when dance music was raw and passionate.  This song really reminds me of Paul Lekakis' 'Boom Boom' and even a little pinch of a-ha's 'Cry Wolf' mixed in.  It really gets us going and Viktor totally tears up this anthematic track.  His unconventional style and confidence is truly inspiring and we hope Viktor breaks out into the open.  Hey if Jeffree Star can do it - so can Viktor.  Viktor's unabashedly electro-pop album 'Dance Like No One's Watching' is available on iTunes now. Take a listen to our latest 'Music On The Verge' track below.

Robyn Live At London's Scala

1818995912_23d218c4ae

We're beginning to turn into a bit of a Robyn groupie now...

Last night Gerilicious and I made our way up to London's Scala in King's Cross to check out Robyn's show and it was the biggest show we've seen Robyn do so far.  Complete with multi-colour lights and an up-for-anything crowd, Robyn wowed the audience with her high-energy show we've come to love.

Robyn also revealed to the crowd that the next UK single will definitely be 'Be Mine' and that it's one her favourite songs from her album.  In fact she loved the song so much, she sang it twice.  But our girl didn't stop there either, she also sang 'With Every Heartbeat' twice as well in which the slower vocal driven version was the final song of the evening.  Robyn couldn't help but notice that the crowd was certainly larger than any UK show she has played...could it be that she is just getting more and more popular by the minute?  We thinks so, as just today it was just announced that she will be playing a show at the legendary Camden venue Koko on 28 February in which you can buy tickets for now...

At the aftershow party, Geri and I had more than a few Smirnoff Ice's and socialized with all the peeps before deciding to head out when by complete accident, we ran into Robyn as she was just making her way into the party!  She was of course a doll and stopped to chat with us and it always amazes me that such power and exuberance can come from such a tiny woman.  What a powerhouse she truly is.

Some Sounds You Could Expect From Imogen Heap's Next Album...

Imogen_piano

So Imogen Heap has been busy building a brand spanking new studio in the house where she grew up.  She's even gone so far as to create a light box in the ceiling to give the studio the 'Glittering Cloud' effect.  That's rather cool - but what can you expect - It's Imogen Heap.

In one of her latest video blogs, Imogen reveals that a lot of the sounds we will hear on her next record will be all the everyday sounds that one hears around the house, like the "oven humming" and the "creaks of the floorboards".  Very interesting Imogen - we are as always very excited to learn all the interesting tidbits that go into your extraordinary music.

Let's just hope she doesn't have a horribly sounding loo flush or an annoying doorbell!  DING DONG.
